Joss Powder

Category: Other Ingredients - Incense Industry Ingredients
Joss powder—also known as jiggat, jiggit, —is a natural, organic binding agent and base used primarily for making incense sticks (agarbatti), dhoop cones, sambrani, and mosquito coils.  It is made from the ground bark of the Litsea glutinosa tree (and related species) grown in regions like Vietnam and India. When mixed with water and wood or charcoal powders, it forms a sticky, pliable paste that holds incense shapes together without cracking as it dries. It has virtually no scent of its own, meaning it does not alter or mask the fragrance of added essential oils, herbs, or resins. It acts as a smooth base that helps the incense burn evenly and continuously.
